In the backyard: grilled dry rub steak

My two favorite fall smells are the grill and our firepit.  I love the grill in the summer but for some reason, in the fall, it just smells even better.

The other day I was looking through the local grocery stores ads figuring out what the menu and saw a deal to good to pass up on Angus steaks It was the kind of price that screams, “buy me or you’re a twit” kind of price.

My hubby cooks up a mean steak and always seasons  it to perfections but on this day I wanted to season it up and try something a little different. It turned out delicious.  Just make sure to do this dry rub the night before or early the morning off to make sure your beef is infused with all that dry spice goodness.

Spicy Dry Rub Steak

  • 2 lb london broil
  • 3-4 tbls of dry mustard
  • 3-4 tbls of hot paprika
  • 2 tsp of cummin
  • 2 tsps garlic
  • 2 tsp thyme
  • 2 tsp basil
  • salt and pepper to your liking

 

Mix all the spices together in a bowl.  Lay out a piece of plastic wrap large enough to wrap your steak in and place your steak on it.  Rub in spice mixture into both sides of your steak.  Wrap steak in plastic wrap and place in fridge to marinate overnight or for at least 8 hrs.

Take your steak out of the fridge at least 30 mins before cooking and allow to come to room temp.  Cook on your hot grill for 7 mins per side.  Remove from grill and allow to cool for at least 10 mins. Slice and enjoy.

Leftovers are great in a salad the next day.
